A reminder, that Russia once had a colony in the US: Fort Ross, occupied by the Russian-American Trade Company (1812-1841). Russians and Aleuts (natives from Alaska, a Russian colony back then as well) grew grain and hunted sea mammals for their mother country. It withstood animosity by the Mexican neighbours, but finally was sold to the Hudsons Bay company./ Ein Erinnerungsstück an die Zeit, als auch Russland in Amerika Kolonien hielt: Fort Ross, besetzt von der Russisch-Amerikanischen Handelsfirma zwischen 1812 und 1841. Russen und Aleuten (Ureinwohner Alaskas, einst ebenfalls eine russische Kolonie) bauten dort Getreide an und jagten Meeressäuger für Russland. Das Fort überstand Feindlichkeiten mit den benachbarten Mexikanern, wurde 1841 dennoch an die Hudsons Bay Company verkauft.
