Inspiriert vom Film Forrest Gump (USA, 1994, 6 Oscars), gründeten 1996 zwei bestehende Nahrungsmittel-Firmen die Restaurantkette Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. So nannte sich die Firma, mit der die Figur Forrest Gump im Film zum Millionär wurde. 2012 gab es bereits 36 Filialen von Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. Zehn davon sind im Ausland, vor allem Asien scheint darauf anzusprechen (Filialen in China, Malaysia, Japan, Indonesien und auf den Philippinen).
