Antigua was once the intellectual and busyness center of Central America until an earthquake destroyed it in 1773. The Capital was moved to what today is called Guatemala City and Antigua Guatemala remained more or less in ruins. It was not before 1972 – when the Unesco announced it world heritage – when restoration and preservation of the old colonial buildings became interesting. Today, Antigua is a major tourist magnet and with the tourists came many international food chains as well. Here some pictures of Antigua.
